Westec Environmental Solutions (WES), LLC is Selected as Finalist for the APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase
(Maui, Hawai’i) August 11, 2011 – Air pollution and carbon capture technology development company Westec Environmental Solutions (WES), LLC announces their selection as one of the 35 Hawaii businesses to be recognized as finalists for the APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase.
The APEC 2011 Hawaii Business Innovation Showcase will recognize leading edge innovation and achievement in Hawaii’s business community, reinforce Hawaii as a place of strong economic opportunities and engage the Hawaii business community in APEC 2011 Hawaii. Most of the finalists selected are at the forefront of Hawaii’s impressive technology and renewable energy sectors, addressing the U.S. goal of promoting “green growth” at the APEC meetings.
The Showcase provides an opportunity for businesses registered in the state to showcase products and services to an international audience during APEC 2011 Leaders’ Week. The APEC 2011 Leaders’ Week will take place in Honolulu on Nov. 7-13 and is the culmination of a series of events held throughout the year in the United States. The Leaders’ Meeting is expected to attract approximately 20,000 attendees including the leaders of the 21 APEC member economies, ministers, business leaders and news media.
The businesses were selected on the following criteria: attractive to markets outside Hawaii, including the APEC member Economies; having developed unique, leading and cutting-edge innovations in product development, technology, marketing or delivery; having positively impacted Hawaii’s business environment, having growth and investment potential; and having adopted environmentally sound programs and practices.
WES, LLC is developing a new game-changing carbon capture technology for reducing smokestack emissions and capturing CO2 before it is released into the atmosphere, thus fighting the increasing concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. WES Absorber patent-protected technology will cut capital costs of air pollution control facilities by 30%, offering significant reductions over conventional CO2 capture systems by reducing the size of the absorbers by 50% or more.
The finalists, six on Hawaii Island, three on Kauai, six on Maui and twenty on Oahu, will receive Recognition of Excellence awards from their respective county. A winner from each county and one overall statewide winner will be selected Sept. 6, and will receive recognition at various APEC 2011 Hawaii programs, as well as through other media opportunities.
The winners will get top billing and exposure at key venues and events during APEC Leaders’ Week — an enviable prize for any local business since so much of Hawaii’s success from hosting APEC rides on the exposure and publicity it generates for the entire state.
