Director of Public Relations
Katie McMillan has over ten years experience in marketing and public relations, and has led successful media campaigns for national social change organizations such as MoveOn.org and the National Council of Women's Organizations; secured media placements for clients in numerous national media outlets including The Today Show, O: The Oprah Magazine, Self, and The New York Times; and conducted on-camera interviews for celebrity honorees including Claire Danes, William Hurt, Willie Nelson and Zooey Deschanel for The Maui Film Festival.
Katie is the former Director of Marketing and Community Relations at University of Hawaii-Maui College, and her efforts directly resulted in two years of record enrollment growth. Prior to her arrival, UHMC did not have a marketing department. She built a team from scratch, oversaw a complete redesign of the campus’s website, and implemented an integrated marketing campaign that included television and print advertising, public relations, and social networking. During her tenure, UHMC had the largest enrollment growth and the most media coverage of the seven University of Hawaii Community College System campuses in Hawaii.
Katie is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College and The Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership. She is also a 2009 graduate of the Ka Ipu Kukui Fellowship program, a year-long program designed to train community-identified future leaders of Maui. A Decisions Maui and Focus Maui Nui initiative, the Ka Ipu Kukui Fellows program was conceived to promote and develop future leaders through a community-based program designed to address planning for Maui Nui’s future.
